Ferry Farm Community Solar is launching a new grant fund to support projects in local schools that promote environmental education, sustainability and climate action.
With an initial allocation of £5,000, the fund is designed to help schools in Selsey and Sidlesham implement projects that inspire students and create lasting environmental benefits. Schools based in these areas—or those proposing projects that directly benefit students from these communities—are eligible to apply.
Funded projects must focus on environmental education, sustainability or energy efficiency and demonstrate a meaningful, long-term impact. This may include, but are not limited to:
Student engagement & leadership – Funding for student-led citizens’ assemblies and activities that help develop a vision and plans for a net zero future.
Environmental education – Support for forest schools, nature-based learning and outdoor environmental installations, such as sensory gardens or wildlife areas.
STEM & sustainability initiatives – Funding for Greenpower kit cars, eco councils and school-wide climate action projects.
Renewable energy & energy efficiency – Projects that introduce energy-efficient solutions, renewable installations, or sustainability measures within school buildings.
Efforts to promote sustainable food practices, food-growing or gardening
Nature conservation projects
Ferry Farm Community Solar will review applications on a quarterly basis, with the next funding deadline set for midnight on May 18. Successful applicants will be notified within 14 days of the review period. To apply, schools must download and complete an application form, available on the Ferry Farm Community Solar website.
Beyond the school grant fund, Ferry Farm Community Solar also provides additional support to local schools through funding for energy audits and carbon reduction planning, and educational visits to the Ferry Farm solar farm, where students can explore renewable energy firsthand!
